On a day when I am super busy and was trying to get a photograph of the competition prize (more on that later) it wasn’t particularly helpful of Wilfie to sit centre stage, however it did give me a cute picture and a relevant title for this week’s blog.
A ‘mugshot’ is an informal term for a police photograph or booking photograph which ties in neatly with the final day of the Little Girl Missing Kindle Monthly Deal – only 99p until midnight tonight so don’t ‘miss’ it.
It’s good to see Little Girl Missing riding high in the Amazon charts again considering it was released almost two years ago. Carrying on from last week’s theme of taking my books on tour, this photo was taken on the beach in Mauritius when we were there in August 2019 for our wedding and also our honeymoon. Sadly, we forgot to take the next in the series, What He Did to Mexico with us in January last year, and then lockdown happened so Why She Died, and My Mother’s Secret haven’t ventured beyond our shores. We’ll have to have a bigger suitcase next time we travel abroad to accommodate all the books which I then leave in the hotel’s library.
Talking of it being the final day to download Little Girl Missing for 99p, it is also the final episode of Line of Duty 6 this coming Sunday. Like a lot of the nation, Sunday night at 9pm has been a real ‘destination to view’ for my family for the past few weeks. I wonder if we will finally discover the identity of the elusive ‘H’? I’ve heard various theories, but I have to say I will be most upset if it turns out to be Steve Arnott.
There are, of course plenty of ‘mugshots’ covering the incident room white boards in Line of Duty, which brings me back to Wilfie’s mugshot at the start of the blog. As I mentioned, I’m running a competition this week but Wilfie is not part of the prize! I eventually managed to entice him away from the My Mother’s Secret mug and playing cards which are the prize to celebrate My Mother’s Secret being selected to be part of the Kobo Mother’s Day/ Women’s Fiction promotion. It runs from 1 -10th May in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, and from the 6 – 10th May in Canada and the US. In Australia, New Zealand and Canada it will be $1.99, in the UK 99p and in the US 99c and it is to celebrate their Mother’s Day which this year falls on May 9th, different from ours.
So, the question to win the My Mother’s Secret goodies is:
In which month of the year do we in the UK celebrate Mother’s Day (Mothering Sunday)
is it A) January B) March or C) June?
Leave your answers in a comment below before midnight on Thursday 6th May (UK time) and I’ll announce the randomly selected winner on next week’s blog… good luck!
So, in line with the Kobo price promotion, my publisher, Bookouture are reducing the price of My Mother’s Secret on the other ebook platforms where it is available – in fact it’s already showing at just 99p on UK Amazon. While I was checking, I noticed there are now over 350 ratings/reviews, 89% of which are 4 or 5 star. Thank you so much for taking the time to write reviews.
They can be a few words as above or a few lines as below.
Or it can be a much more expansive review as the one from ‘Fiction Books’ was. These are usually from the amazing book bloggers who very kindly agree to read an author’s book and feature it on their blog. If you want to read the whole review it is on Amazon – I have to say I shed a few tears while reading it!
And on the subject of book bloggers, on next week’s Between the Lines feature I’ll be introducing you to author and book blogger, Noelle Holten whose blog you can read at www.crimebookjunkie.co.uk and whose latest crime/thriller, Dead Secret (there’s a theme here with secrets) has just been published. A very interesting set of answers to my questions particularly what she wanted to be when she was grown up!! Clue; it’s not a writer, but you’ll need to check back next week to find out.
Well, that’s about it from me for today as I’m rushing off for a physiotherapy appointment and then into my day job at QVC. I hope the weather is warm and sunny for the Bank Holiday weekend and do remember to enter the competition… a mug and some playing cards, both useful if you’ve got some time off.
Much love
Julia xx

Hi Graham
Wilfie is a handsome devil, isn’t he? I will miss him when our son moves to his new home (which is fairly imminent). I hope you’ll enjoy the Rachel Hart books – my sister thinks they are my best books but then she loves to read that genre.

Hi Julia,
Mothering Sunday in the UK is March.
Liked the latest book by the way. Will leave a review. Brought back memories of my Mum who had vascular dementia. Luckily she went very quiet, rather than episodes of temper. The book had me in tears at times.
Ripped Books says
Hi Hazel
I’m sorry to hear that your mum had vascular dementia – I had no idea how many different types of dementia there were until I started researching My Mother’s Secret. I mostly based it on the behaviour of people I know personally. It must have been a difficult read for you in places but I’m glad you were able to enjoy the story. A review would be lovely.
