Once a Month

Firstly, thanks to all of you who’ve been reading my blogs every fortnight here on my website, but I do have a bit of bad news. I’ve decided that moving forwards I’m going to be reducing the number of blogs I write to one a month and it will be the first Monday of each month. If I learned anything as a result of all the sick leave I was forced to take last year, it’s that working a 4-day week at QVC and writing two books a year for Bookouture leaves precious little time for anything else and that includes writing my fortnightly blog on here and for QVC, so something had to give as I approach pensionable age in June!

Don’t worry about missing special bits of information regarding my books such as cover reveals and special limited time pricing. I will continue to send out free newsletters when I have something important to tell you, so make sure you are signed up to receive them.

To temper the bad news with some good, there will be a prize competition on every blog and this week I’ll be giving you the chance to win a Zandra Rhodes notebook and a signed copy of My Mother’s Secret – more on that later.

Speaking of My Mother’s Secret, the Kindle Monthly Deal reduced price for January has now finished. However, if you happen to be reading this in Australia it has just started a Kindle Monthly Deal price of $1.49 for the month of February, so please spread the word if you have friends or relatives in that part of the world. She has now topped 600 ratings/reviews on Amazon and is maintaining an overall 4.5 out of 5 star rating for which I am truly grateful.

So, since my last blog I’ve had my six-week post cataract operation check-up and everything is looking very positive. I have 20/20 distance vision when seeing with both eyes (obviously in the tests they do one at a time, rather than me suggesting that I walk around with one eye closed) and even close up I have much better vision than they expected. That said, I do have my glasses back from the optician with their new prescription lenses which I will only need if I’m spending several hours in front of the computer writing.

I cancelled the 24hr blood pressure monitor last Monday as I’ve been doing home readings over the past six weeks, and they’ve all been in the green zone. I think my weight loss and increased physical activity have contributed, but not having the worry over my various health issues has to be the major contributing factor. I have had a sign off consultation with the cardiologist today and he is happy that everything has returned to normal…. Phew!

Actually, that was my second medical-type appointment today. This morning, I had my second Covid 19 booster, my fourth jab in total. Due to my leukaemia, I was contacted last week and asked to go for another booster as my previous one was in September, so quite a big gap with a couple of winter months still to come. I’m sitting here typing with a bit of a sore arm and hopeful that the side effects will be as mild as they were with my other jabs – I feel a bit like a pin cushion!!

For those who are interested, it was the start of the Chinese New Year last Tuesday. We are now in the Year of the Tiger. Both my mum and my son are Fire Tigers, as is Her Majesty. Like my mum, The Queen will celebrate her 96th birthday this year, not to mention seventy years on the throne – what incredible devotion to duty.

This photograph of my son was taken on Christmas Day 1986, when he was exactly four weeks old, accompanied by his teddy and ‘tigger’. He was quite a big baby, just over 9lbs but not as heavy as his sister who weighed in at 9lbs 5oz! It’s a good job I stopped at two or goodness knows how big the next one might have been.
