I’m often heard saying that I prefer animals to people (there are exceptions of course) but it’s just as well that I do as we’ve had two more ‘house guests’ since I wrote my last blog.

Several weeks ago, my son, Dan and his girlfriend, Katie asked if we would be able to have their Dachshund/Jack Russell puppy for the day while they went to an NFL game in London. At the time we had no hesitation in saying yes, little realising that my pituitary gland surgery would be scheduled so quickly. My only slight concern was that Quin is very lively and loves to be fussed and one of the things I was not permitted to do was bend forwards, but how could I resist this face?

By the way, if you’d like to see more pictures of Quin, he has his own Instagram account @mightydaxie where he already has more than 550 followers… more than his ‘mummy’! He was a very good boy for us and taking him out for a couple of short walks made a nice change from trudging up and down the garden to get myself mobile.

He was only with us for a few hours, but a couple of days later his ‘brother’, Wilfie arrived to stay for a few days holiday while his ‘mum’ and ‘dad’ went on theirs. Having lived with us for most of his eight years, Wilfie settled back in immediately, making himself very comfortable on our new yellow sofas as well as acting like a living, breathing hot water bottle stretched out on my legs while I had my afternoon doze.

As I’m still supposed to be taking it easy, I’ve been watching a fair amount of television in the afternoons including A Place in the Sun and Tipping Point which I was never previously a fan of but have now become slightly addicted to!

The past few days, I’ve not felt quite so tired so maybe the anaesthesia is finally working its way out of my system. Or maybe I’m feeling brighter because I had two pieces of positive post-operative news this week. The first was on Monday when I went for my first post-op vision tests. I thought my vision had improved, but I didn’t want to get too excited about it until I’d had the appropriate tests as it would have been a huge disappointment if it was an imagined improvement. I came away from the appointment floating on air. The vision in my left eye, which had the lens replacement in May is now better than 20/20 much to both my and the ophthalmologist’s delight. It was the proof we needed that the visual disturbance I was experiencing was a result of the tumour compressing my optic nerve. It was such a relief to finally find out what the problem with my sight has been.

I received the second piece of good news yesterday. My neurosurgeon was almost sure that the tumour he removed was non-cancerous, but nothing was certain until the results of the post-op biopsy were back. I’ve now had it confirmed that the tumour was benign – another huge relief. No wonder I felt well enough to try a few very gentle Pilates exercises yesterday. It was so good to have a bit of normality in my life.

With everything that has been going on with my health and the pet-sitting, I almost missed the 9 monthiversary of publication day for My Mother’s Secret on Wednesday. My attention has been focussed on my latest book, so I hadn’t spotted the latest couple of reviews nor the fact that she was still in the top 100 chart in Women’s Popular Fiction. For some of my readers, My Mother’s Secret has been their favourite book of mine so far, in fact someone on my Facebook page commented that they loved it so much that they had read it AND listened to it on audible, and someone else said, ‘it was a beautiful and sensitive read.’

That said, The Woman on the Beach has been my fastest seller and has the most ratings/reviews of any of my books. Currently on 830 on Amazon, I’m hoping she will be the first to make it to quadruple figures and you could help that happen. If you’ve read and enjoyed, but not yet reviewed it, I would be most grateful for a few words to encourage others to give it a try.
