I’ve been talking about doing an audiobook version of ‘Alice’ for ages, in part due to one of my colleagues at QVC, fellow author, Debbie Flint. We have been friends for a long, long time and although she wants to read it because she’s heard good things about it, she doesn’t have the time but she does spend long hours in the car driving up and back from her new(ish) home in Devon. I have had other people ask about doing an audio version of my books so I’ve got myself into gear and it’s finally going to be happening. At this point, I have to thank a lovely voice-over artist, Rachel Beresford, for her help in the early stages of the process. I had signed up to a ‘platform’ called ACX where you can offer your book to a ‘producer’ to be made available on Audible. I then put a passage from the book up for audition and waited for the auditions to listen back to to find the right voice. It was really difficult to choose between the voices as each brought something different to the party but in the end I went with the voice that was most like the one I had in my head when I was writing. If all goes to plan, it should be available in early June – I will keep you posted on here!
I’ve had a very creative start to 2018 with ideas positively oozing out of my pores. This was probably helped by a holiday where my brain was able to switch off from the ‘day’ job and focus on creating new characters and new stories. Antigua gave me the plot for a new book, which I have started, but I have also written the first chapter of a different book and I’ve revisited ‘Pumpkin’ (working title) as the pieces have suddenly fallen in to place. It was the ‘work in progress’ I submitted for critique a year ago on the writing weekend I attended organised by Rowan Coleman and Julie Cohen and, having taken their suggestions on board, the beginning is more impactful and the storyline is clearer. Their mantra of KISS (keep it simple, stupid) is certainly going to make this book better. It’s always good to listen to advice from people who have experience in their field; in fact, congratulations to Julie on winning the RONA award recently for her novel ‘Together’.
I also wrote ‘A Recipe for Love’, a short story exclusive to the blog (for now) for Valentine’s Day – if you haven’t read it yet it’s a coffee break read, although I like Lily and Joel so much, I may have to develop it in to a full-length novel… time permitting! A Recipe for Love Download Here
